Y2021 Sports Festival: Lagos Boasts of Best Athletes

The Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Oluwatoyin Gafaar, has restated the commitment of the government to ensure that the best athletes in the State participate in the forthcoming 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) tagged “EDO 2020” scheduled to hold from 14th – 28th February, 2021 in Benin, Edo State.

Speaking on the preparation of the team, the Director-General said everything is being done to ensure the successful outing of the team at the games, revealing that the previous open camping of the athletes has dovetailed into a closed one in order to minimise distraction and increase concentration of the team before their departure for Edo State on 13th February, 2021.

“We are going to the Sports Festival with our very best Athletes that are fit, prepared and ready to represent Lagos State in the competition. These Athletes need to work extra hard to attain fitness before the Festival without any distractions. We are concentrating on sports in which we have a comparative advantage with our best Athletes, who are already in camp. We are not going to Edo for a jamboree”, Gafaar said.

The Director-General disclosed further that all Athletes selected to represent Lagos State at the forthcoming 20th National Sports Festival will be required to sign Code of Conduct forms, while their Parents/Guardians would also have to sign letters of indemnity.

While urging all Coaches, Coordinators and Sports Association Secretaries to work together for the success of Team Lagos, Gafaar assured that the Management of Lagos State Sports Commission will ensure that all necessary logistics needed for the success of the contingent are made available.
