Vulnerable groups in six Anambra community receives project intervention under CSDP-AF

Six Communities in Anambra State are to witness interventions in their chosen core areas of need as the Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency (ANCSDA) recently carried out project launch events in the communities.

 ANCSDA is implementing and promoting development activities at the grassroots level presently, under the World Bank Assisted Community and Social Development Project- Additional Financing (CSDP-AF) in the state, which aims at poverty reduction in rural communities using Community Driven Development (CDD) approach.

The Project Launch events for the six vulnerable groups (VGs), is a prelude to the release of funds for the implementation of their various approved Group Development Plans (GDPs).

The events featured the signing of the Project Financing Agreement between the ANCSDA represented by its General Manager, Mr. Chudi Mojekwu, and each of the various Group Project Management Committee (GPMC) represented by the respective Chairpersons of the vulnerable groups, as well as presentation of the 1st tranche (50%) of total project cost as agreed with the groups for the implementation of the micro-projects (MPs).

 The six Vulnerable Groups (VGs) and the approved micro-projects with their associated costs are Ofuobi VG Inoma, Anambra West LGA (Rehabilitation and Equipping of Health Centre, Construction of 1 Borehole at a total cost of N9.87m); Chidindu VG Amorka, Ihiala LGA (Construction of 20 Lock-up shops, Construction of VIP Toilets and Construction of Borehole at a total cost of N9.74m); Obinwanne VG Umuonyiba Ufuma, Orumba North LGA (Construction and Equipping of Health Centre, Construction of Borehole with 1000 Gallon overhead Tank at the cost of N9.72m) and Udo na Oganiru VG Owerre Ezukala, Orumba South LGA (Construction of Solar-powered Borehole, Construction of motorized Borehole, Construction of 20 Nos Open Market Stalls at a total cost of N9.89m).

Others are Chibuike VG Owelle, Anambra West LGA (Construction of 1 Nos Borehole, Construction of 20 Nos Open Market Stalls at a total cost of N8.53m); and Obinwanne VG Ndiokolo, Orumba North LGA (Construction of 20 Nos Open Market Stalls, Installation of Solar Electricity at the Health Centre, Construction of Solar-powered Borehole at a total cost of N9.95m).

In his remarks at the Project launch events, the ANCSDA Mr Mojekwu encouraged the GPMCs to be transparent and judicious in the use of the funds for the project implementation

“I also plead with the town union leaders and other community members to support the groups in ensuring successful project implementation which invariably will also benefit the entire community when completed by the group,” he added.

 On her part, the Operations Manager ANCSDA, Mrs. Uche Nwaizugbo urged the VGs to ensure that the approved micro-projects are implemented according to the quality and standard stipulated in their Bill of Quantities (BOQs), and also ensure speedy completion of the projects before the rainy season commences fully.

Some of the group members who spoke at the events expressed their profound gratitude to the State Agency for the approved micro-projects, and also, commended the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, for ensuring that the CSDP-AF became effective in the state for the benefit of the poor communities and vulnerable groups. 

 In their separate vote of thanks, the President Generals and Chairpersons of the various GPMCs promised to ensure that the projects are completed in record time with the stipulated standard and quality.  

The CSDP is a pro-poor project and intervenes in such sectors as Health, Education, Water Resources, Rural Electrification, Transport, Socio-Economic, Environment/Natural Resources, Gender and Vulnerable.
