UNTH Ituku-Ozalla gets medical supplies, equipment worth millions from foundation

Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF), on Tuesday, donated 100 hospital bed sets and medical accessories to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla near Enugu.
The donation is in continuation of the foundation’s medical equipment, supplies, medicines distribution programme to tertiary and few secondary health institutions across the country.
Presenting the items at the hospital, the Founder of the foundation, Sir Emeka Offor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Chris Ezike, said the foundation on Sept 4 also donated medicines/medications worth millions of naira to the hospital.
According to him, the medication included antibiotics, anti-hypertensives, anti-lipidemic, anti-peptic, anti-asthmatics drugs as well as topical cream, multivitamin and others.
“Today, we are following up with more donations as we present 100 hospital bed sets with mattresses, pillows, side cupboards, beddings and other accessories to the UNTH,” Offor said
He noted that the foundation would continue to impact on the lives of less privileged Nigerians especially in the areas of education, health and empowerment.
“For the records, the following tertiary institutions in the South-Eastern region have benefitted from our Health/Medical Intervention for 2020.
“National Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu got a building and donation of Amenity Ward as well as donation of 40 feet container load of medical equipment and supplies.
“Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, Anambra State got donation of 40 feet container load of medical equipment and supplies.
“Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State got donations of medicine/medical supplies.
“Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Abia State got donations of medicine/medical supplies. Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, Imo State got donations of medicine/medical supplies.
“Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi, Anambra State got donations of medicine/medical supplies,’’ he said.
Offor revealed that the tertiary health institutions and medical centres mentioned would soon benefit from its donation of hospital bed sets and accessories.
In a goodwill message, Deputy Managing Director of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), Mr Paul Okeke, said the challenge of improving the quality of health care and health institutions was enormous and too demanding to be left alone to the government.
“Today, what we are witnessing is encouraging and quite commendable, as it will impact positively on the health care needs of this health institution and the sick ones.
“EEDC has equally extended support to the COVID-19 Test Centre here in UNTH by donating cartons of alcohol-based hand sanitisers and medical face masks, as part of our own little support to protect those health workers at the forefront of COVID-19 battle.
“We have equally extended the same support to the respective state governments that make up the South-East, as well as other COVID-19 Test Centres within our area of coverage, some of which include the Federal Medical Center, Owerri; Ebonyi State COVID-19 Isolation Centre, etc,” he said.
Responding, Dr Obinna Onodugo, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of UNTH, appreciated the foundation for the immeasurable assistance and donation it had been giving to the hospital for over a decade now.
“On behalf of the management, staff and our patients, we are immensely grateful for such a quantum of donation coming at this COVID-19 era.
“UNTH is continually praying that God will bless, reward and keep Sir Emeka Offor and his foundation going higher and achieving more for the progress of humanity, our nation and our people,’’ Onodugo added.
