Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Anambra State says it plans to install Close Circuit Television (CCTV) in examination halls within the university to check incidences of examination malpractice by students.

Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Charles Esimone disclosed this during an Orientation Course organized for the over 8, 400 newly admitted students of the institution ahead of their matriculation ceremony billed for Friday, January 31, 2020.

Stressing that the university has zero tolerance for examination malpractice of any form, Professor Esimone warned that the institution will take strong disciplinary action against anyone caught in the act.

Addressing the students, Esimone advised them to eschew all forms of criminality such as cultism, rape, robbery, fighting and certificate forgery within and around the campus.

“The purpose of the orientation programme is to introduce students to the university by familiarizing them ahead of time, with its facilities, academic programmes, values and norms with a view to easing their adjustment to university life. I want to congratulate you on your successful admission into the University and I urge you to ensure you graduate on time and with good grades in order to stand favorably in the highly competitive global labour market,” the VC advised.

He reiterated his vision of making the university rank among the first 200 universities in the world through a matrix of teaching, research, and public service, stressing that the quality of the university’s graduands was an important parameter in attaining the feat.

“To ensure that the university produces high-quality graduands, a congenial learning environment has been put in place such as lecture rooms, laboratories/studios, internet facilities as well as a crop of well qualified academic, technical and administrative staff, among other welfare benefits,” he said.

Speaking on the university academic regulations, Prof. Frederick Odibo, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), enjoined the students to work assiduously to complete their academic journey in record time, reminding them that their activities were guided by rules and regulations (both general and academic).

He told the students that they were expected to have attained requisite knowledge and skills in their chosen areas with a high sense of reasoning; have writing and speaking abilities as well as possession of numerate and computer literacy skill, self-confidence, ethical standard and professionalism before they could earn the university’s degree.

Earlier, the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Chinonso Achebe, noted that the 3-day orientation course was to acquaint the students with modus operandi in the institution. He was also of the opinion that through such programme, the students would know their roles in order to key into the ‘Project 200’ of the current administration.

Some students who spoke to news correspondent expressed satisfaction with their experience thus far on the campus and pleaded that the vice-chancellor should continue to make their welfare top on his agenda.
