Two Die As Bus Crashes Into Ditch Following Heavy Downpour In Anambra

Awka – Two persons on Monday lost their lives after a Toyota Hiace bus owned by GC Okoli Transport ventures with all its passengers, crashed and was trapped inside a gutter opposite ABC Transport park at Upper Iweka, Onitsha.

The driver of the bus with Lagos registration number, AGL 493 XR, one Anene Joseph Okechukwu, was said to be driving during the heavy downpour when the incident happened.

An eyewitness at the scene said it was a case of poor visibility due to the torrential rainfall, which led to loss of control that made the bus to fall into the gutter by the side of the road and was trapped.

When TNC visited the scene, an FRSC rescue team and others sister agencies were seen managing the traffic and a heavy-duty tow truck was been deployed to assist in removing the vehicle trapped under the gutter.

Our correspondent gathered that three persons sustained serious injuries in the crash -2 male and 1 female adults.

Confirming the incident, the Anambra Public Education Officer of Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Edor revealed that the female adult involved, sustained injury and was rushed to Toronto hospital by FRSC rescue team from Upper Iweka Command, but the two male adults could not make it.

She said they were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and their body deposited at the same hospital morgue.

“The Anambra FRSC Sector Commander, Andrew Kumapayi wishes the injured quick recovery and he sends his condolence to the two deceased family.

“He encourages motorist to always exercise patience while driving in the rain, especially when visibility is poor.

“They should stop and park out in a safe place to avoid any form of traffic crash. It is better to be late than be late he said,” she said.
