Suspected armed robbery syndicate nabbed in Anambra

The Police in Anambra says it has burst three suspected members of a robbery gang terrorizing Ekwusigo axis of the state and the environs.

The suspects were allegedly arrested he robbery syndicate on Saturday by operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), Anambra State Command, following actionable intelligence.

According to the Anambra spokesperson of the Police, Haruna Mohammed, firearms, ammunition and other incriminating items were also recovered from the criminals.

His statement read; “On the 18th of July, 2020 at about 12:30pm, following actionable intelligence, the Command Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) arrested three suspected members of a robbery gang.

“They include, Onyebuchi Osadebe ‘m’ aged 28 years of Akwuukwu in Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State, Chibuike Ebere ‘m’ aged 23 years of Isiala Mbano LGA, Imo State and Umoke Kelechi ‘m’ aged 22 years of Ikwo LGA Ebonyi State.”

According to him, “the syndicate had on the 11th of July, 2020 around 6:15am at Umuobi village, Akwu ukwu allegedly robbed at gunpoint, one Emmanuel Obi ‘m’ of his #700,000.00 Naira, 8,000 Euro, $3,000 dollars and some assorted phones.”

Mohammed revealed that exhibits recovered from the suspects at the point of arrest include one pump action gun, one fabricated gun and four live cartridges.

“Others include #610, 000.00 Naira cash, 4,600 Euro cash, $600 dollars, one shuttle bus newly purchased with the victim’s money, two new tricycles and three assorted phones robbed from the victim,” he said.

The PPRO said the suspects had confessed to the crime voluntarily and an investigation is ongoing after which they will be charged to court.

He gave the reassurances of the State Commissioner of Police, John Abang that the State Police Command under his watch, will continue to make the state unbearable for criminal elements until they repent or relocate from the State.
