Awka – Two time governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi on Tuesday advised the electorate in the state to salvage the state from the total collapse, which the Willie Obiano administration has plunged it, by voting massively for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

Obi made the call during the flag off of a tour of the 21 Local Government Areas of the state by the governorship candidate of the PDP for the November 6 election, Mr Valentine Ozigbo.

Tuesday’s event saw the PDP campaign train led by its candidate, Mr Ozigbo, visit Orumba North, Orumba South and Aguata LGAs.

At the various venues for the LGAs at Ajalli, Umunze and Ekwulobia, Ozigbo was received by a mammoth crowd of PDP members and supporters, who showered him love as he moved round to touch base with his people.

Speaking at the ceremonies, Obi noted that the state was on a speedy decline in all indices of good governance and needs immediate remedy.

According to him, the PDP members in the state, had selected Ozigbo to fly its flag at the November 6 Governorship election, because of his proven integrity, pedigree and taste for excellence.

Obi regretted that since he left office in 2014, no meaningful development has taken place in Anambra state and that has to change, if the state must maintain a pole position in the nation’s polity.

“It is worrisome that the schools we built when we were in office are the ones still subsisting. The structures we built at the health centres are the ones people still use till now. The vehicles we acquired for the schools and the vigilante are now in dilapidated condition because the Obiano administration has done nothing about them. The roads in Anambra a at today are the worst in the country. So in all indices of good governance, Anambra is speedily failing and that is why our people need to take back their state and hand it over to someone who can secure its future,” he said.

The former Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP in the last general elections observed that almost all the key contestants have had one opportunity or the other to develop the state and their communities but failed, noting that only Ozigbo has not gotten such and therefore deserves a shot at the state leadership.

“We know all the candidates of the various political parties and where they have been. Prof Chukwuma Soludo was the Central Bank of Nigeria and did nothing for his hometown, Isuofia. Senator Andy Uba served many tenure as member representing Anambra South Senatorial zone in the National Assembly and the roads leading to his hometown is in very deplorable condition. He has no single project to his name anywhere in the area. And we can go on and on. It is only Ozigbo that deserves a chance and has the energy and capacity to deliver on what he has promised Anambra people,” he noted.

Obi explained that the tour was to inform the people of the mission of the PDP to salvage the bad condition of the state through a well thought-out development plan, which the Ozigbo candidacy offers.

In his remarks, the PDP candidate for the Anambra governorship election, Mr Ozigbo said the PDP, with his candidacy, has a better promise for the development of Anambra State.

According to him, after the implementation of his ‘Ka Anambra Chawapu’ blueprint, Anambra people will once again, be proud of their state and its accomplishments, just as they were when Peter Obi was governor.

“This blueprint is a homegrown work plan developed in considering the peculiarities of our state and where we want to be in the coming years. It leverages on the capacities of women and youths who have been excluded in the development efforts, to open up new possibilities for the state, in terms of agriculture, commerce, technology, infrastructural development among others. Overall, it also speaks to how Anambra can harness the abundant resources of its illustrious sons and daughters doing well all over the world to build a prosperous state. It is my view that we have everything here to be the best state. What is lacking is just the right leadership and that is why I have come,” Ozigbo said.

On her part, the deputy governorship candidate of the PDP, Mrs Azuka Enenmuo said there is need for the state government to begin to work for the people again, assuring that Ozigbo is sincere and will keep to his promises.

She acknowledged that God’s hand is mightily upon Ozigbo’s mission, calling on the people to vote massively for them to ensure that Anambra returns to its glory days.

On their part, a former member representing Orumba North in the State House of Assembly, Romanus Obi and a stakeholder from Orumba South, Okey Ajaebo assured that they will work to deliver Ozigbo in the areas.
