Soludo To Fly APGA Flag In Anambra’s November 6 Governorship Election

Awka – Former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has emerged the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA for the November 6 Governorship election in Anambra State.

Soludo polled a total of 740 votes at the APGA Primary held yesterday in Awka, to beat his closest rival, Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo, a sitting Federal Legislator, who polled a total of 41 votes.

In third place was Okolo Damian who got 7 votes while Thankgod Ibe came fourth in the election with 4 votes.

The exercise had commenced with accreditation of the Statutory and Adhoc delegates from the Wards and Local Government levels at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka before proceeding to Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, where the voting took place.

TNC correspondent in Awka had reported earlier yesterday that journalists were barred from entering the venues for the exercise.

However, it took the late intervention of the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C-Don Adinuba to clear the journalists to enable them enter the centres.

Announcing the results, the Chief Returning Officer for the Primary election, Deacon Samson Olalere revealed that a total of 812 APGA delegates were listed for the Primary election out of which a total number of 795 were accredited.

He further revealed that 792 votes were eventually cast during the election.

Deacon Olalere said Prof Soludo fulfilled all the requirements of law and polled the highest number of votes at the exercise.

“Having fulfilled all the requirements of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended and the APGA Electoral Guidelines for Anambra State Governorship Election 2021, and in pursuit of the powers given to me by the APGA electoral guideline, I, Deacon Samson Segun Olalere, hereby declare Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, as the duly elected Candidate of APGA, for the November 6 Governorship election in Anambra State,” he said.

In his remarks, Governor Willie Obiano commended the peaceful conduct of the election, noting that the job has just begun for the party.

In his acceptance speech, Prof Soludo thanked the party delegates for the mandate given to him to fly the party’s flag in the November 6 Governorship election in the state.

He said under the leadership of Governor Obiano as the National of the Party, APGA is has grown  stronger as a political party in Nigeria.

Soludo extended a hand of fellowship to his fellow contestants in the APGA, to join hands with him to ensure victory for the party in the November polls.

“The November election is a very consequential election that will determine the future of the state and our great party, APGA. The room is too arge for any one man to occupy, therefore I call on you all to rally support for our party as we step into the main election,” he appealed.

The former CBN boss said APGA is serving Anambra people better and the state needs continuity to continue to make progress.

He expressed his desire to deploy his global experiences and network and his local intelligence, to transform the fortunes of the state.
