Rivers: PDP Tackles Unrepentant ‘Killer’ Police Chief

The Rivers State wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has taken on the Commander of the Federal Anti-Special Robbery Squad, (F-SARS), Akin Fakorede, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), saying the alleged killer police chief will have a special place in hell.

Fakorede is being accused of killing of Dr. Ferry Gberegbe, a lecturer with Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori and former Chairman of the polytechnic branch of the Association of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ACSUP) during the March 9, Governorship election in the state.

But, at the hearing of the House of Representatives Committee on Army, Human Rights, Justice and Police Affairs on the matter in Port Harcourt, the state capital, the alleged killer cob was battling hard to clear him-self from the messy election violence that rocked the big oil state.

The story was however playing out as the party announced that they have lifted the suspension of 16 Local Government Chairmen of the party.

The affected chapter chairmen are those of: Abua-Odual, Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Akuku-Toru, Andoni, Bonny, Degema, Eleme, Emohua, Khana, Obio/Akpor, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni, Okrika, Omuma, Opobo/Nkoro and Oyigbo.

PDP State Chairman, Felix Obuah, commended the chapter Deputy Chairmen of the affected local government areas for effectively taking charge of their respective council chapters while the suspension lasted.

The State Executive Committee of the party in an emergency meeting on April 18, approved the indefinite suspension of the 16 chapter chairmen.

In the mean time, PDP has described as ‘’heartless, callous, awful to the ear and unimaginably conscienceless’’ the testimony of Fakorede concerning the alleged dastardly murder of Dr. Gberegbe.

While Fakorede is denying involvement and responsibility for the seeming barbaric act which he is being alleged to have personally masterminded on the election day, PDP said his denial has cast a big question mark not only on his mental health but also on his very essence as a human being.

To Fakorede, the party said, ‘’woe is he who shed this costly innocent blood. More satanic and unforgiving is your unrepentant stance and allusion that the late academic and father of four was a victim of his own plot’’, noting with dismay the incongruity and inconsistency in the police chief’s testimony when he alleged that the bullets that silenced Dr. Gberegbe, were pumped through the nuzzles of the guns of his friends and not from those of his foes or security operatives as widely reported.

The PDP is then wondering what could have taken the accused police chief to Bori, the headquarters of Khana Local Government Area, and the election results collation centre on March 10, 2019 and how he got all the information he put up as a defence.

The party is insisting that Fakorede has a question to answer if such occurrences and inglorious disservice by the police personnel as witnessed during the Governorship election in Rivers are to be checkmated.

The PDP regretted that valuable assets like the person of Dr. Gberegbe should be lost through the instrumentality of worthless elements whose only contribution to the society is to maim and kill for their political paymasters, using our national insignia as a cover.

Asking the House of Representatives Committee to dismiss Fakorede’s testimonies on grounds of lacking in merit, inconsistency and self contradictory, the PDP said the blood-tasty and trigger-happy F-SARS Commander was only trying to make two sorrows out of one to justify his brute rascality.

“Even at death, we still hold Dr. Gberegbe in very high esteem not only on account of his academic attainment but also in recognition of his standing up against injustice and laying down his life for the nation’s democracy to survive.

‘’We duff our hat for Dr. Gberegbe and pray that his spirit will not rest until all those who had a hand in his untimely death are brought to book no matter how highly placed. Dr. Gberegbe was never a cultist and could not have been one, was a friend of many and was only on lawful election duty on that fateful day when his life was cut short by hell-bent anti-democratic elements led by Fakorede”, PDP said.
