In preparation for the launch of Precast Beams for Phase I of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit project, the Lagos State Government will divert traffic on Murtala Muhammed Way between Saturday, 12th February and Sunday, 13th February, 2022.

A statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, explained that a lane will be barred from vehicular movement as part of the safety precautions to protect road users during the installation of the Precast Beams.

Oladeinde revealed that traffic on Murtala Muhammed Way will be diverted through Abeokuta Street to access Borno Way and Coates Street to further link Murtala Muhammed Way, adding that motorists can alternatively access their destinations from Cemetery Street in Ebute-Metta.

In the same vein, he said traffic on Apapa Road will be accommodated with the temporary lanes constructed before the overpass and will be channelled to two lanes on Murtala Muhammed Way.

The Commissioner assured that the construction site will be cordoned off for the safety of the citizenry, noting that emergency vehicles will be on standby to tow faulty vehicles along the axis.

He also informed that signboards will be placed on the access roads in addition to the presence of the State’s Traffic Management Authority personnel to manage traffic flow and minimise inconveniences to motorists and road users.

Commending Lagosians for their understanding and patience in view of the several ongoing road projects across the State, Oladeinde reiterated the present administration’s commitment to the development of transport infrastructure, maintaining that it is vital for the Multi-Modal Transportation System that will, in turn, boost the socio-economic development of the citizenry.
