Police Deny Anambra Government’s Allegation Of Plans To Arrest Its Officials

Awka – The hierarchy of the Nigeria Police Force has denied allegations by the Anambra State Government that it plans to arrest its officials on trumped-up charges.

In a statement on Thursday, signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C-Don Adinuba, the State Government said it has received credible intelligence about moves by members of a certain political party to use the instrumentality of the state to arrest key officials of the State Government anytime on trumped-up charges.

According to the government, the plan is to hijack the gubernatorial election holding on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

“One of the meetings was on how to use the coercive apparatus of the state to carry out this plot has just been held in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

“None of the heads of national security agencies is aware of this plot.

“The desperate politicians want to use certain compromised operatives working without the knowledge, let alone the support, of the national heads of the security agencies to perpetrate this act.

“This announcement is to bring the evil plans to the knowledge of all Anambra people but also to the attention of all relevant authorities for prompt action,” the statement said.

But in a reaction, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG in charge of operations, Zaki Ahmed insisted that the allegation is ‘fake news.’

He said the Police will maintain neutrality during the elections and provide security to all political parties as well as ensure that the governorship election of Saturday is peaceful.

“I don’t know where the allegation is coming from but I want to say that the Police have no such plans.

“And we want to assure our people that we will resist any such attempt if they come,” Ahmed said.
