Police arrest man who pushed girlfriend to death from 5-storey building in Anambra

Awka – A 37-year old man, one Nonso Eze has been arrested by the Police in Anambra for allegedly killing her girlfriend after pushing her from a 5-storey building.

The incident took place over the weekend at N0.6 Orakwe close, Fizel Estate, Awada Obosi in Idemili North Council Area of Anambra State.

According to a co-tenant at the building, who spoke with TNC correspondent on Monday, on the condition of anonymity, the suspect had allegedly pushed the victim down from the 5th floor of the building following a quarrel.

Although the source was unable to disclose the cause of the quarrel, he alleged that the suspect was in the habit of inviting female friends to his apartment.

“It was in the wee hours of that fateful morning when we heard some noise from the topmost floor and subsequently, a sound as if something was dropped. We all rushed out to find the suspect’s girlfriend lying in a pool of her own blood and eventually alerted the police. We then rushed the victim to a nearby hospital but she was confirmed dead by the medical personnel at the hospital,” the source narrated.

The source also bemoaned the character of young girls who are fond of visiting male friends who they are not married to, lamenting that despite the various cases of such incidents, some women have remained adamant.

Effort to reach the owner of the building, was unfruitful as at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, when contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Haruna Mohammed revealed that the suspect has been arrested and the case under investigation.

He confirmed that the victim was a girl of about 23 years, whose name and address is yet unknown.

“Police operatives attached to Awada Division visited the scene and photographed the victim. The suspect was subsequently arrested and search executed in his apartment where a pair of female slippers and unused condom were recovered as exhibits.

“The corpse was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy while an investigation is ongoing to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident after which suspect will be brought to book,” he revealed.
