Over 500 transformers distributed to communities, groups- Anambra govt

Anambra State Government says it has distributed over 500 pieces of 500KVA/11KV and 300KVA/11KV to over 160 communities, 20 estates and companies in the state.

The Commissioner for Public Utilities and Water Resources, Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne disclosed this on Monday, when he spoke with TNC correspondent in his office at the Government House, Awka.

According to the Commissioner, availability of power for home and industrial uses is key to achieving the Anambra of everyone’s dreams.

He revealed that the Willie Obiano administration, in its quest to improve the availability of power in the state, entered into a partnership with Transmission Company of Nigeria(TCN) in August last year to build multiple transmission infrastructures around the state.

Engr. Ezenwanne further declared that the state is doing everything possible to provide the needed help to towns, companies, estates and individuals to improve power supply and boost economic activities in the state.

“From January 2018 to date, the state government has distributed over 500 Transformers to various groups in the state. During the 2017 governorship election, Governor Willie Obiano made promises to communities, groups and individuals that the state government will donate transformers to them. Such individuals and groups have all received the transformers including Dr. Prof. Godwin Maduka, Fed. College of Education, Umunze, Nigeria Television Authority, Christ the King Estate, Oba, Aguezi Layout Amanuke, among others, Ezenwanne said.

Among the communities that benefitted he noted were Abacha, Ubulu Isiuzo, Amorka, Ohita, Okpoko and Enugu Umuonyia.

Others are Awba Ofemili, Urum, Nteje, Aguleri, Isuofia, Amansea, Umueje, Igbakwu, Nkpor, Amiyi, Abatete and many others.

Engr. Ezenwanne urged traditional rulers, the presidents-general and the entire people of the benefiting communities to help the government in protecting public projects sited in their locality.

“The state government has a Public Infrastructure Monitoring committee that handles such cases as theft, vandalism and others. It is our hope as a government that Anambra people will work with this taskforce to protect these infrastructures. This is important for us to ensure that these projects last,” he said.
