Awka – The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Youth Wing has suspended Engr. Damian Okafor, as the National Youth leader of the youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization.
The suspension of the youth leader followed a National Executive Committee meeting of the wing over the weekend, where a vote of no confidence was passed on him by the wing.
According to Mazi Chika Art Adiele, the National Publicity Secretary, Engr Okafor was suspended for gross misconduct, gross incompetence, public embarrassment, dishonesty, dereliction of Duty, disrespect to other NEC members and violation of the constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide
He said in line with the Constitution of the apex Igbo sociocultural organization, Worldwide, the National Deputy Youth Leader, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones was ratified by the NEC, as the Acting National Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide-Youth Wing.
“Out of 24 member National Executive Committee, 22 members voted in support of the Vote of No Confidence on Engineer Damian Okafor and his indefinite suspension as Leader of the Wing and ratification of Onwuasoanya FCC Jones as the Acting National Youth Leader,” he said.
Adiele said the wing reasserts its unwavering loyalty and support to its parent body, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, led by Ambassador Professor George Obiozor.
He also said the NEC also set up an eight man Committee to investigate the allegations against Engineer Damian Okafor and report back to the National Executive Committee, within two months, on further recommendations and findings.
“This Committee has Chief Arthur Ugwah, the National Financial Secretary, who will serve as Chairman and Comrade Akadiro-Orji Chisaokwu Phil, the National Ex-officio, as Secretary of the committee.
“We advise organizations and individuals who may wish to have any dealings with Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide – Youth Wing, to take note of this crucial leadership change and henceforth, stop dealing with Engineer Okafor or any of his set up or representatives on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing,” he noted.
