NPF denies trending video of inhuman treatment incident happened in Nigeria

The Nigeria Police Force has debunked rumours that an incident of inhuman treatment by security personnel captured in a video and circulated online, took place in Nigeria.

In the viral video credited to @NigeriaDream, the security officer was seen stamping his feet on the neck and head of a man lying helplessly on the floor, in clear violation of his rights, dignity and freedom.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba issued on Monday, said the Force condemns the act in its entirety.

It further said the Police authorities have however painstakingly fact-checked and examined the video and found out that the incident did not happen anywhere or at any time in Nigeria.

“A critical look at the video indicates that – the vehicles on the scene are neither common vehicles used in Nigeria nor are the number of plates of Nigerian pattern. Although the man in uniform looks like a private security guard that can be found anywhere, he is certainly not personnel of the Nigeria Police Force. Also, the background language in the video is not any of the known Nigerian languages,” the statement said.

Mba said the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, calls on citizens to discountenance the video.

“It is a clear act of mischief ostensibly orchestrated to stir up ill-feelings towards security agencies in Nigeria. The IGP assures of the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to always respect and uphold the rights of the citizenry,” he said.
