Nigeria is indeed a nation, a country and a Republic. Nigeria is to me a blessed nation, blessed people, and blessed in all ways, including with beautiful laws that govern her. Nevertheless, Nigeria is mostlyput to disadvantage by a lot of challenges ranging from: non-application of majority of her laws; unwilling leadership at some point and unwilling citizens, and a host of other challenges. As Nigeria prepares to mark her 61st Independence Anniversary in few days, and critically looking at the future of Nigeria from the point of view of some of these challenges, made me a little bit inquisitive to know what her future is likely to be when by that time (in the future), I might have been become aged and or old or might have left this world.There are indeed many forgotten leaders and many forgotten citizens of Nigeria, while there are still a number of few others still on record as a result of their good legacies that they left behind. There and then, such legacies pose a great challenge and competition to me, as to what would be my contributions to the good future of Nigeria no matter the present period of her life, hence, this topic?!
I must be quick to state here that this article is not for me alone but for all Nigerians both within and outside Nigeria. What kind of future do we expect from Nigeria and how ready are we to impart positively in such good future?! What roles are our youths playing today to make Nigeria better tomorrow?! Our youths in my humble recommendation, should be more of good entrepreneurs in order for them to be much more self-sufficient, creative and innovative. With their innovation and creativity, they would be able to project Nigeria in a better picture for a better future.
Furthermore, Nigeria has been blessed with laws to such magnitude that were those laws put into application and or operation, their positive effects would have been enough to make Nigeria better than where she is at the moment. Therefore, there is a great question here as to how is the future of Nigeria going to be better with our laws?! In my humble view, Nigeria can be better through our laws if: all laws in operation in Nigeria are revised, reviewed and amendment and or repeal takes their respective cause where need be. Also, our good laws start from where leaders that have Nigeria in their good heart are elected into the legislative arms of government at the various levels of: the Federal; the State and the Local Councils. These legislators are those that make our laws and where they make a better law for Nigeria, then, there is hope that the future of Nigeria is bright for all its citizens to rejoice. Also, election of good, righteous and good candidates into the executive arms of the: Federal; State and the Local Governments will ensure that the good works of the legislatures are put into operation. Also, the executive should while using their constitutional or statutory conferred discretions, have a better Nigeria at heart. Furthermore, appointment of qualified legal practitioners to the Judicial office of: the Federal; State and the inferior courts of record would ensure transparent, just and fair adjudication of cases based on the good laws made by the legislators. Legal practitioners or where applicable, qualified persons should be considered on merit alone based on expertise, experiences and good personality, to be recommended and or appointed into the higher and the lower bench (i.e. the judiciary).
Furthermore, as individuals, our good intention and prayers for Nigeria daily and at every time that we come before our God Almighty will also help Nigeria to be well protected by God Almighty. Also, we as citizens must be ready to always assist the government to fight corruption and expose corrupt persons just as we ourselves desist from corruption and corrupt practices, in order to ensure a clean and just nation for Nigeria.
Finally, it is indeed my humble view that whatever we wish Nigeria to be is in our hands as a government and as people (citizens) of Nigeria, whether abroad or residing within Nigeria. Therefore, we must not tarnish the good name of Nigeria and we must always pray for a bright and better future of the nation and not attempt to bring it into disrepute or to bring it to destruction, God forbid!
