Massive Defection In Anambra, As PDP, APC Primary Losers Continue Governorship Ambition On Other Platforms

It is a season of massive decampments in Anambra, as aspirants who lost in the various parties’ primaries have taken to other parties to continue their gubernatorial ambition.

Among the most affected political parties were the two main opposition parties, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Last week, the first runner-up in the PDP primary, Chief Obiorah Okonkwo had decamped to Zenith Labour Party, ZLP.

The development was closely followed by the announcement by Chief Ben Etiaba, a son to former Anambra State Governor, Dame Virgie Etiaba, who contested on the platform of the APC, that he is dumping the ruling party at the national level

Etiaba, who said he will address a press conference on his new platform on Saturday in Abuja, said he will present his running mate at the new party.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, despite various entreaties, renowned medical doctor, Godwin Maduka who had lost the PDP ticket to contest the November 6 Governorship election in Anambra to business leader, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, joined the Accord Party.

Announcing his decampment, Maduka thanked his supporters who rallied round him all along the journey.

According to him, he decided to continue his ambition because he could not bear watching people of the state continue to suffer due to lack of proper administration and bad governance.

“By God’s grace and intervention, I have been able to impact the world around me and I am not relenting. Politics or no politics, I will continue to do good to the humanity.

“This time now, I have left the People’s Democratic Party and have joined Accord Party officially. I am the authentic gubernatorial candidate of Accord Party for the November 6, 2021 Anambra governorship election and with your unalloyed support I will be your next Governor.

“Join me, let us transform Anambra State.  Let us build a state of our dreams.

“I have come for the poor like me, those that are bearing the excruciating brunt of poverty and hardship as a result of mismanagement of our common wealth. We are here to correct all those administrative errors this time,” he stated.
