President Muhammadu Buhari is set to receive the passed 2019 budget tomorrow (2nd May 2019). The Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Mustapha Dawaki, made this known while briefing newsmen after plenary in Abuja yesterday.

  1. Asari Dokubo Reveals When, How He Will Kill Nnamdi Kanu

Asari Dokubo, a former Niger Delta militant leader, has vowed to end the life of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. He said that the struggle for the actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra has been compromised by the IPOB leader. In a video shared by the former Niger Delta militant leader, he blasted Nnamdi Kanu for running from the Nigerian government instead of facing them squarely.

  1. Buhari Government Secures the Release of Detained Zainab Aliyu

The Nigerian government has secured the release of Zainab Aliyu; a Nigerian student who was detained for alleged drug trafficking in Saudi Arabia. It was widely reported that President Buhari directed the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to swiftly intervene and secure the release of Zainab. Her release has raised calls for intense efforts by the Nigerian government to intervene in the case of Leah Sharibu.

  1. IGP: 1,071 Killed, 685 Kidnapped in First Quarter of 2019

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has said that a total of 1,071 persons have lost their lives in crime-related cases across the country in the first quarter of 2019. He also stated that at least 685 persons were kidnapped across the country in the first quarter of this year. The IGP made this known during the quarterly Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council meeting held yesterday in Kaduna State.

  1. Unknown Gunmen Kill Two in Miango District, Plateau State

Unknown gunmen attacked and killed two villagers yesterday in Miango District in Plateau State. Although the cause of the attack was not known, the Plateau State Police Command released a statement  signed by DSP Tyopev Matthias Terna saying that the culprits will be brought to book at all cost.

  1. Senate Summons Police Boss Over Insecurity

The Nigerian Senate has summoned the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to appear before it and answer questions relating to the state of insecurity in some parts of the country. Senate President, Bukola Saraki made this known during plenary yesterday. The Senate President made this announcement after Senator Ubali Shitu (Jigawa North-East) moved for the approval of votes and proceedings.

  1. Senate Queries Appointment of New NYSC Director General

The Nigerian Senate yesterday queried the recent appointment of Brig-Gen Sani Ibrahim as the new Director-General for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The Upper legislature asked its Committee on Sports and Youth Development to investigate whether the recent appointment by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Tukur Buratai, was appropriate.

Double Olympic champion Caster Semenya has lost her appeal against the introduction of new rules regulating the testosterone levels for athletes with a difference in sex development (DSD). The result of this ruling means that Semenya will be required to take medication to reduce her testosterone level if she wants to keep running on the international stage.
