The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Maria Garces arrived yesterday into the country on an official visit. Garces and her delegation were warmly received by top aides and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations office in Abuja. The UN General Assembly President will meet with President Buhari during the course of her visit in the country.

  1. Ganduje Moves to Remove Emir of Kano

The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has relaunched moves to remove the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II. This was reported yesterday when the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission reopened investigations into the expenditure of the state emirate council under Sanusi II. Some of the investigations being looked at by the anti-corruption commission include the number of foreign trips and fundings of the emirate under the emir’s leadership.

  1. Senator Ademola Adeleke Detained by Nigerian Police

Senator Ademola Adeleke has been detained by the Nigerian Police. The Nigerian Senator, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and governorship aspirant in Osun State elections honored the invitation of the Police upon which he was arrested. According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), Frank Mba, Senator Adeleke was detained in connection with ongoing criminal investigations against him.

A top media aide of the Nigerian President, Garba Shehu has told newsmen that his principal, Muhammadu Buhari beat his close rival Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the Presidential elections this year because of his honesty. It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari won the 2019 elections held early this year.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the current insecurity challenges facing the country will thrive under the second term of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure. The opposition party noted that the Nigerian President and his ruling party; All Progressive Congress (APC) are incompetent in handling the nation’s security challenges. This statement was made by PDP Chieftain, Kassim Afegbua after Buhari arrived in the country.

  1. CACOL Applauds JAMB For Stance on Examination Malpractice

The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL) has commended the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on its stance in exposing and prosecuting corrupt examination offenders in the country. The agency made this known in a statement issued yesterday by its Executive Chairman, Debo Adeniran. He applauded the Board for de-listing 76 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for various infractions during the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as well as ordering the persecution of about 100 persons allegedly involved in various malpractices during the examination.

President Muhammadu Buhari has denied reports that while in London, he was compiling the list of Ministers for his new cabinet after his inauguration on May 29. The News Chronicle reported that the President arrived in the country on Sunday after a 10-day visit to the United Kingdom.

The Presidency stated yesterday that the recent spike in the level of insecurity in the country is not as bad as that of the previous administration.
