Fashola Lists Alleged Corrupt Contractors

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) has submitted to the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) documents from some of the Ministry’s agencies providing details regarding the names of contractors that allegedly took money for electricity projects but failed to execute any projects.

This development was disclosed today by the the Deputy Director of SERAP, Mr. Kolawole Oluwadare who acknowledged the letter signed on Mr. Fashola’s behalf by the Permanent Secretary (Power), Lious Edozien O.N. which was sent to the agency last week. In the letter, the Minister invited SERAP to inspect a compendium of verified and paid/outstanding liabilities.

The letter revealed that ‘Pow Technologies Limited’, an Abuja based company was in 2014 awarded a contract for the supply and installation of test and maintenance equipment relays and although the contract was awarded in 2014, only 13 out of 19 items have been supplied with 6 items outstanding.

SERAP welcomed the Minister’s response but urged for more details and names of other contractors that collected public funds and are yet to execute power projects. The agency further stated that it will continue to push the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing and its agencies to reveal more details or corrupt companies and contractors as contained in the FOI request.
