Lawmaker, NGO partner to train 300 Teachers in Anambra

Awka – As part of efforts to improve the quality of education in schools across Njikoka, Anaocha and Dunukofia Federal Constituency, the Member representing the constituency, Fedinand Dozie Nwankwo in conjunction with Centre for Ethical and Self Value Orientation(CESVO) has trained 300 teachers on fundamentals of teaching ethics.

Teachers who participated in the 3-Day ‘Train the Trainers Ethical Teachers Retreat’ organized at the various local government Secretariats, were drawn from public, private and mission schools, 100 per council area.

During the training, the teachers were exposed to 21st century teaching skills especially as it concerns the use of ICT.

Declaring the retreat closed at Dunukofia Local Government Area Secretariat, Ukpo, Hon Nwankwo said he decided to attract the programme to upgrade the teachers with needed modern trend and skills to achieve positive results in their responsibility.

He added that it was in line with his determination and commitment to touch the lives of teachers, who spend time nurturing future generation of professionals for manpower development of the state and the nation in general, adding that time had come for their reward while still alive.

“Teachers are critical stakeholders in grooming our children who are going to take over tomorrow and no investment in their development is a waste. It has also been proven that the caliber of professionals any society can boast of is largely dependent on the quality of its teachers and educational system. That’s the reason why I embarked on this project and it is my hope that our teachers who participated, have been equipped to go ahead and impact our children,” he enthused.

While promising to sustain the programme, Nwankwo enjoined participants to step down what they learned in their various schools for advancement of knowledge and effective teaching and learning.

He further disclosed that the Information Communication Technology(ICT) Centre, which he sponsors at Enugwu-Ukwu, for youth empowerment and knowledge-driven digital space, would soon be commissioned for use.

Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer, Centre for Ethical and Self Value Orientation(CESVO),Prince Salih Musa Yakubu, said the retreat was staged to transform participants to achieve stress free teaching and learning in schools.

He explained that they chose the constituency in view of the excellent performance of the lawmaker at the lower legislative chamber over the years, adding that he ranked among top 20 parliamentarians who met their benchmark for effective representation.

The Members representing Njikoka 2 and Dunukofia State Constituencies in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Pete Ibida and Lawrence Ezeudu respectively, appreciated Hon Nwankwo for sponsoring the retreat for the overall benefit of teachers in the constituency.
