How former governors, FG officials, traditional rulers benefitted from billion-dollar NDDC contract

Details have emerged how top federal government officials, two former governors, and some traditional rulers benefitted from the controversial Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) contracts.

A document recently released showed that police officers, officers from other security agencies and judiciary officials also got NDDC contracts worth billions of dollars over the years.

This latest disclosure is in addition to the list sent by the minister of Niger Delta affairs, Godswill Akpabio, to the House of Representatives speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, which also included names of some members of the House of Representatives as contract beneficiaries of the commission

The document contains project descriptions, local government areas, proposed contractors, contact details (including phone numbers), project sources and dates the contracts were awarded.

Meanwhile, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, the chairman of the Senate committee on Niger Delta, has dared Godswill Akpabio over the list of lawmakers who allegedly got contracts from the NDDC.

The Delta lawmaker challenged Akpabio to send the list of contractors to the EFCC.

The minister had earlier released the names of federal lawmakers involved including Nwaoboshi who had 53 projects against his name.

However, Nwaoboshi in reaction to Akpabio’s list said the allegation has no bearing with the truth.

The lawmaker also dared Akpabio to send the list to other security agencies as well if the minister can support the allegations.
