Homicide Detectives Arrest Killers in Delta

Homicide detectives in Delta State have arrested six suspects being linked with the worrisome spate of killings and other unwholesome activities in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

The Local Government Chairman, Ramson Onoyake, has given out the names of the arrested suspects. He said they are, Friday Okito, Billy Adoye, Joshua Amakachi, Promise Okia, Godstime Blessing and Precious Chidi.

Though police investigation is ongoing, the council boss has however, apologised to residents of the troubled area over alleged repeated threats to their lives, following the frequent clashes by rival youth groups in the council area.

With the arrest of the suspects, Onoyake is assuring residents of enhanced security in the vulnerable area. According to him, ‘’I want to assure residents that everything is now under control. Police officers have swung into action, and as you can see, there are military men stationed at various points in the town to prevent a further perpetuation of crime and criminality.

‘’We now have the names of some key actors in the killings though I would not want to mention their names now, but we will try to see how we can track those persons with the security agents and make them face the law.’’

The alleged murder of four youths and a lady quite recently jerked the council chairman into action. He admitted that the incident angered him and made him step out to see how he can motivate and support the security agencies to contain the killing ring and bring those behind it to book.

‘’This time around we are out to get them. The law must take its course’’, he said while calling on the residents to go about their daily routine without panicking.

On whether elections will hold in the area considering the security challenges there, the council boss said, ‘’the security operatives are the ones that have the answer to that. I am not in the position to say if elections will hold or not.

‘’Security operatives are the ones that will advice on what should happen in a situation such as this. I still want to believe that if in the next few hours peace is restored then elections will hold. But, I am sure that they are capable with what I saw.

‘’I went round with them and did not go to the office’’, and accordingly blamed the crisis on some persons who are seeking for recognition since elections are close. ‘’This is election period and they want to capitalise on this and try to seek attention. But, some hoodlums always hijack it’’, he said.
