Awka – Family of Chief Nze Hyginus Nwagboso of Umueze village in Amorka town, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State is demanding justice over alleged murder of their daughter, Mrs Chinecherem.

Chinecherem, a 19-year-old pregnant woman, was allegedly murdered by the husband, Prince Nnanna Emeka from Omuodimma Ugbele  Mgbidi in Oru West LGA of Imo State for ritual purpose.

TNC gathered that the suspect had severally demanded that the deceased accompanied him to an unknown friend’s place, which she vehemently refused.

The suspect was however said to have succeeded in convincing her to follow him to his maternal home in Umunakwa village, which coincidentally was the deceased town, where the act was executed.

“The man used an iron rod to hit the wife on her forehead. When he suspected he might be caught while transporting the body, he had to ask for the assistance of one of his maternal relations, while he asked another of his friend to help him clean up the blood on the crime scene,” a family source said.

The mother of the suspect was reportedly arrested alongside the duo, but were later released on bail by the police without the knowledge of the girl’s family.

Speaking to TNC in Amorka after the incident was reported to Uli Divisional Police Station, one of the family members who preferred anonymity, disclosed that the deceased was murdered with her four months unborn child by the husband, who suddenly disappeared immediately after the incident.

On his part, the father of the diseased, Chief Nze Hyginus Nwagboso said the daughter who was killed while sleeping, had no misunderstanding with the husband prior to the murder.

He called on the federal government, Inspector General of Police and spirited Nigerians to intervene to ensure that the gruesome act was not swept under the carpet.

Reacting on behalf of the Amorka Council of Chiefs, legal adviser to the traditional council and Town Union, Barr Chinwuba Ndukaihe pleaded for thorough investigation into the matter to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“We call on security agencies particular the Inspector General of Police through the commissioners of police of both Anambra and Imo States to conduct a discreet investigation into the gruesome murder of Chinecherem Nwagboso, in order to bring the perpetrators of this dastardly act to justice.

“We also urge the immediate family of the bereaved and the good people of Amorka to continue being good and law abiding citizen, and have faith in the good effort of our security agencies to unmask the perpetrators,” he pleaded.

A human Right Lawyer, Barr Lawrence Nwaketi described the act as condemnable and a reflection of the rot in the system, where the craze to get rich by all means had become the order of the day.

“Reports have it that the young man’s action might have been geared towards using his wife for money rituals. If that is correct, then it leaves a big question mark on our values as a people. I urge the police to ensure that justice is done in the matter,” he said.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga said the case had been transferred to state Criminal and Investigation Department while investigation was ongoing.

“The case has been transferred to State CID and the suspect is still in our custody. Meanwhile, investigation is still ongoing and the matter will soon be charged to court,” he added.
