Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has warned that his government will brutally deal with anyone who stands in the way of workers going about their normal businesses on Monday.
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, had in a statement last week, declared ‘Ghost Mondays’ in the region, a directive for total shutdown of the entire Southeast region every Monday, in solidarity with their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is standing trial for various offences.
The IPOB directive is with effect from Monday, 9th of August, 2021, until the trial of Kanu ends.
But while inspecting three Amoured Personnel Carriers at the State Criminal Investigative Department annex in Awkuzu on Friday, Governor Obiano warned that all parts of the state have been fortified with special security forces.
According to him, the Armoured Personnel Carriers, which are to be stationed in the three senatorial zones of the state, are to embark on intensive patrol throughout the state to restore confidence in the people, that the state remains the safest in the country.
Governor Willie Obiano warned criminal elements, who are disturbing the peace of the state to relocate or face the consequences of their actions.
“I am happy to announce to Anambra residents that we have intensified security in Anambra State. This is how it has been since we took over seven and half years ago. We have procured these equipment for the three sentorial zones in the state. The machines are supported by a joint team comprising personnel from the Army, the Navy, the Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, the Vigilante and the youths of the communities. Any criminal that disturbs the peace of the state will meet a deadly force,” he boasted.
The Governor said that security officials have been motivated to carry out their assignments effectively and efficiently.
He assured that his administration would not relent in ensuring that security of lives and property is maintained in the state.
“The joint security personnel have been motivated to ensure that what happened a few months back does not happen again. We know where these people are and we are picking them up one after the other. I want to warn any hooligan of group on whatever guise trying to disturb the residents from going to work on Monday, to stop or they will be dealt with,” he said.
On his part, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operation in the state, Mr Dogo Salman explained that the Armoured Personnel Carriers were to help fight crime.
