Ezekwesili, Obi react to release of abducted Kankara schoolboys, renew call for release of Chibok, Dapchi girls

A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has renewed her call for the release of some Chibok and Dapchi girls kidnapped by Boko Haram.

Her demand follows the release of 333 students of Government Science secondary school, Kankara, Katsina State.

Recall the students were kidnapped from their school on Friday.

The Katsina State government, however, confirmed their release on Thursday night.

Welcoming their release, Ezekwesili said Nigeria is not being governed and shows characteristics of a failed state.

Reacting on her Twitter page on Friday, she wrote, “We rejoice in the freedom of our innocent Kankara Boys! But, Nigeria is not being governed at all now.

“All the characteristics of a Failing State are evident in this country and must be averted by citizens.

The former minister questioning the release of the students wondered why terrorists did not release the 112 Chibok girls and Dapchi girls.

“Where are the remaining 112 Chibok Girls and the only remaining Dapchi girls, Leah Sharibu who is a Prisoner of Faith?

“Buhari should we assume the 344 (a new number from 333) Kankara Boys went on an excursion to terrorists who have out of magnanimity released them to you?

“When will 112 Chibok Girls and Dapchi Girl, Leah Sharibu also be released by terrorists to an irredeemably uncaring Buhari who has for 3 years and two years respectively not considered it worthy of a Leader to engage their parents? When will our Girls come home?”

Also, Peter Obi, former Peoples Democratic Party, presidential running mate has described the release of 333 students of GSS, Kankara as a relief to Nigerians.

The students on Friday returned to Katsina State after the Nigerian army secured their release from their abductors.

Recall that Boko Haram leader, Shekau had claimed responsibility for the abduction.

Shekau mentioned that the boys were kidnapped from school to discourage western education and promote Islam.

Reacting to their release, Obi on his Twitter page commended everyone who were on their toes to ensure the release of the students.

His tweet read: “I am elated at the release of the GSSS Kankara schoolboys. It is a huge relief not only for their families but also for Nigerians.

“Everyone involved in the process that led to their release deserves commendation.”

The former Governor, however, noted that there are lessons to learn from the incident which is a compelling need to rejig security architecture.

“There are lessons to be learnt from this unfortunate incident, and one of them is the compelling need to rejig our security architecture,” his tweet added.
