Edo Police Raise Alarm To Hospitals Following Gun Injuries To Suspected Criminals

The Edo State Police Command has urged hospital operators in the state, to watch out for persons with fresh gunshot wounds and report to the nearest police station as they commence treatment.

The announcement came from the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, following a gun duel between the Police and suspected armed robbers that resulted in the death of one of the criminals on Christmas Day.

The suspect was shot dead around Technical College road in Benin, capital city of Edo State.

It was gathered that the deceased and other gang members, now at large, allegedly stormed a house at Uselu in Benin city where they forcefully entered the compound and ransacked all the apartments and stole a Toyota Camry car which they used in parking many household items before zooming off.

The hoodlums were said to have gone on a robbery spree, attacking and robbing any shop insight in Uselu area.

They later attacked a confectionary shop along Technical College road in Uselu, Benin city and robbed the owner of the shop and all her customers, during which a distress call was made to men of the Ugbowo Police Division who responded swiftly.

Following a gun battle that later ensued, one of them fell to the superior firepower of the police as he was fatally hit by police bullets while other gang members then abandoned the snatched Toyota Camry car and escaped.

When contacted, Edo State Police Public Relations Officer SP Chidi Nwabuzor who confirmed the incident revealed that other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds.

“Items recovered from the suspect include one locally made pistol and the Toyota Camry car with registration number KNH 703 HW.

“The body of the suspect has been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy and further investigation,” he said.
