Drug Dealer Arrested for Possession of Indian Hemp Seeds – says he fed it to his chickens

On Saturday, April 23, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) paraded a suspect for possession of Indian hemp seeds who said he fed them to his chickens in his poultry.

The suspect who narrated to the NDLEA his observations after he fed the birds the seed revealed that he owns a poultry farm.

In his words:

‘’I have a poultry farm and I was told that if I fed the chickens with the Indian hemp seeds, they would grow fast and strong without falling sick.’’

‘’So I do mix the weed seeds with their food when feeding the chickens.’’

When asked by the News Agency of Nigerian in Kaduna on Sunday, the suspect admitted that he however used to smoke the Indian hemp. He expressed he had only fed the chickens the Indian hemp seed just once before he the NDLEA seized the seeds and arrested him.

Kaduna state NDLEA Commander, Mr. Umar Adoro, while conversing on Sunday with the press, NAN, said that the suspect was arrested on April 17 with a 3kg bag of Indian hemp.

He revealed that the suspect has been on the NDLEA’S wanted list for a long time.

He said:

‘’He is one of the notorious drug dealers in the state. We have been searching for him for long. What helped us is the Ramadan fasting period when drug dealers operate only at night.

‘’When they are done peddling drugs in the night and are not expecting any patron in the morning, they oversleep and we take that as an advantage to arrest them.’’

‘’we have arrested about two of them in such manner.’’

Mr Adoro highlighted that the chickens which had consumed the seeds as the suspect claimed, had its own dangers. This will however be determined by veterinary doctors.

He further added that those drugging animals in a bid to enhance their health status should put humanity and the community into consideration.
