Decampees Are Spying On APC For APGA – Obiano

Awka – Governor Willie Obiano on Thursday, claimed the massive defections into the All Progressives Congress, APC by members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA is a political ploy by his party.

Obiano disclosed this when he was fielding questions from state House correspondents yesterday after a close-door meeting he had with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.

Six Anambra state legislators, one federal legislator and many other APGA stakeholders recently defected to the APC, a development many political watchers have said should be a source of worry to the ruling party in the state.

But Obiano has said the lawmakers and other APGA stakeholders that left, are spying for the party on the APC.

He maintained that APC has no roots in Anambra, boasting that his party, APGA is on ground in Anambra.

“The defection is purely a political strategy. We have not lost anyone in the actual sense. All those decampees are still APGA members. They just went to APC because they are sharing N100 million. They are there as spies and they are giving us information on what is happening in APC,” he claimed.

On the recent comments by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, saying the Federal Government may consider declaring a state of emergency in Anambra if the insecurity continues, Obiano described it as unfortunate.

According to him, there was no justification for the Minister to make such comments, especially as the state is in an election season.

The governor said he will later call the Minister to lodge a formal protest, wondering why he did not contemplate such emergency rule declaration for some other states where insecurity and killings have become the order of the day.

Obiano who made it clear that the Minister is alone in the thought, said he raised the matter during his discussion with President Buhari, who he said is averse to all forms of intimidation irrespective of the political party.

“Such thoughts are not in the books for Mr President. During our discussion, he made it clear to me that he wants free and fair election in Anambra. It is obvious that these games are being played by members of the APC around Mr President and since he is not in support of it, we are emboldened by this my visit to face them head on,” he said.

On allegations that his government has failed Anambra people, Obiano maintained that the state has done well under his watch.

He cited the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri, the International Conference Centre and many other projects as legacy accomplishments that Anambra people will remember his administration for.
