COVID-19: Bauchi records first northern case

Bauchi has recorded two new cases of the dreaded Coronavirus, to become the first northern Nigeria case aside from the FCT.

The Executive Chairman of The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, disclosed this during a press conference while giving an update on the pandemic in the state.

He said that from the first day the state recorded its first index case, 48 samples were taken to the Nigerian Center for Disease Control, NCDC, out of which two samples were tested positive.

The Executive Chairman said that no death had been recorded so far in the state, adding that 37 samples returned negative while 9 results are still pending.

“The first index case is a 62-year-old man while the second index case is a close contact of the first contact. The first index case is presently not displaying any symptoms but is still in isolation. The second case is also in isolation and is currently receiving treatment. The two cases are currently on admission”

“We have started tracing the contacts of the two index cases to track them and take their samples to the NCDC for investigation. We currently have set up three new Isolation centres in the state to include the Specialist Hospital in the state, the General Hospital Bayara and the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital” he said

Dr Rilwanu who said that the management team is divided into four to include case team, risk communication, surveillance and risk sensitization, called on philanthropist and donor agencies to support the state for it to purchase machines needed for the testing.
