COVID-19: Bauchi records 9 new cases, total now 38

The Bauchi State Government has disclosed that 9 new cases of Coronavirus had been recorded, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 38.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Health, Dr Aliyu Maigoro, who stated this to newsmen in Bauchi, said that the results were sent in from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Abuja on Thursday night.

“Out of the 90 returnees from Rivers and Enugu states that were isolated in Destiny Hotel in the state, 87 have been discharged, only three of them tested positive to the virus. We have recorded 9 new cases of Coronavirus in the state, so our total update is now 38.

“The results were sent to us late last night by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Abuja and our active case is now 32 while the total number of people discharged so far remains 6. For all the 90 persons isolated at the Destination Hotel who are returnees from Rivers and Enugu states, we have thoroughly screened them and only 3 tested positive. All the other 87 has been discharged as they tested negative,” he said.

The Commissioner then said that only one of the repatriated Almajiris tested positive for the deadly disease, contrary to the rumour that many tested positive.

“There was a rumour that a lot of Almajiris tested positive for the virus, but only one of them tested positive for the deadly virus. I am calling on the citizens of the state to adhere to all the tips as advised by health experts by maintaining social distancing, using of face masks, washing of hands with soap and water as well as making use of hand sanitizers as a preventive measure to curtail the spread of the virus in the state” he added.
