Community Seeks Anambra Govt Support to Apprehend Internal Collaborators in Rising Insecurity

Awka – Enugwu Agidi community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State has called on Anambra State Government to set up an investigation into the rising cases of kidnap and insecurity within the community.

The President General, Enugwu Agidi Brotherly Union, Dr Chidi Okoye made the call in a chat with TNC correspondent who visited the community on the issue.

In the past five weeks, the Enugwu-Agidi axis of Enugwu Agidi- Ukwulu- Nawgu- Igbariam road, has witnessed 4 kidnap incidents.

On Thursday, one person was kidnapped along the same route, the last of the four cases.

According to Dr Okoye, the development is more worrisome when compared with the fact that investigations revealed that there are no such occurrences in any other part of the state.

“Having reviewed security situations in our peaceful community, the Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union, EBU, has concluded that the 4 kidnap incidents that happened within 5 weeks in Enugwu-Agidi, are, to say the least, very alarming, as we have found out that there were no incidents of kidnap anywhere within Anambra State within the period. Why Enugwu-Agidi?” he queried.

Okoye said government’s independent investigation has become necessary since they are of the opinion that there must be cooperation from members of the community, which enables the kidnappers operate successfully, even at very short intervals.

He called on government to set up independent investigation into the incidents to unmask the collaborators, pledging the support of the community towards supporting government fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

“Consequent upon the ugly trend, EBU, after wide consultations, resolved to appeal to the state government to send independent investigators to look into the security situations in Enugwu-Agidi.

“This government/ independent investigation has become necessary since experts are of the opinion that there must be cooperation from members of our community, which enables the kidnappers operate successfully, even at very short intervals.

“Committed to joining forces with the Anambra State government in improving security situations in Enugwu-Agidi, and indeed the larger State, EBU urges Enugwu-Agidi people and all residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement of persons to the appropriate authority, while the youths, vigilante and taskforce are advised to be alert to forestall any further reoccurrence of kidnap incident or similar crimes in or around the community,” he concluded.
