Boko Haram: Shehu Sani Angry, Takes Zulum to Classroom

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, the epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency, does not seem to be properly informed about what ignited the crisis in the bleeding North-East axis of the country.

His claim that the insurgency started as the EndSARS protest has drawn the ire of Senator Shehu Sani, who literally took the supposed informed governor to the classroom on Friday night. Sani, a former federal legislator lectured Zulum, a professor that Boko Haram insurgency can be traced back to the era of extrajudicial killings of the group members before they went rogue.

Sani was lecturing the governor in response to his claim that the Boko Haram crisis started through protests. Zulum, on Friday, warned youths who have been taking part in EndSARS protests across the country to be careful.

Governor Zulum also told the youths that the Boko Haram crisis in the North Eastern part of the country started with protests by youths against the use of motorcycle helmets in the state capital, Maiduguri.

The governor handed down the warning in an interview with State House correspondents after a meeting he had with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Warning against the protests turning into a disaster, Zulum noted that over one million people have been displaced as a result of Boko Haram activities which were fallouts of the protests against the use of helmet.

He said while innocent people are bearing the brunt, some of the arrowheads of the protest have relocated from the state to Abuja, Lagos or abroad.

Zulum had told reporters earlier on Friday after meeting with President Buhari that EndSARS protesters should be careful in order not to allow those with ulterior motive hijack the protest.

“On the issue of EndSARS, I am calling on all Nigerians especially the youths to be very careful. The whole Boko Haram saga started as a result of the protest by some youths in Maiduguri against the use of helmet by motorcycle riders, you have seen the situation now,” he said.

Sani who formerly represented Kaduna South Senatorial District tweeted: “No Professor, Boko Haram insurgency didn’t start from protest; it started from extra judicial killing.”

Youth protesting against police brutality had demonstrated in different parts of the country for two weeks before security agents clamped down on them.

Shortly after the protesters were dispersed, suspected hoodlums attacked private and government-owned property across the country
