IKEDI MEKZ sees a movie which addresses the menace of online trolls and its consequences.
All is now set as ace Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke is about to premiere “Bad Comments”, his much anticipated debut movie production, at Imax Cinemas Lekki, Lagos. The bankable actor and producer will be joined by a coterie of guests from across the entertainment and media industry for the exclusive screening which opened on Sunday 22 August.
Iyke, who also plays the lead role in the feature film, is deliberately out to make a statement and reconnect with his fans after staying off the spotlight for a while.
“This time, my first foray into production is with “Bad Comments”, he disclosed in a recent interview. “It’s my first stint back into the industry. I’m the executive producer, and lead producer of this film. So, it’s pretty much my baby. I brought Moses Inwang (director) on board to headline this with me.
“In Bad Comments’, Iyke, the Nollywood ‘Bad Boy’ plays the role of Frank Orji, an actor living the ideal celebrity lifestyle, being the biggest star in the industry.
He soon embarks on a revenge-thirsty mission after getting excessively bullied by internet trolls.
The crux of the forthcoming movie tells that often time, celebrities get attacked or bullied by trolls following their posts or activities online. This sometimes leave these stars bruised and troubled within their quiet space to some extent that they wish they could get hold and exert their pain on these cyber bullies who have untowardly become a thorn in their flesh.
Sometimes these tormentors trolls, bash their victims with vile comments, leave behind mischievous remarks like “I’m in my house, come and beat me”, knowing that it’s unlikely to reach or locate them wherever they are at any particular moment.
The movie trailer released a couple of weeks back shows Chiwetel Agu, Patience Ozokwo, Ini Edo, Ayo Makun, Timaya, among other big stars in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Scenes from the trailer depict fast-paced fusion of drama and thriller, with a blend of momentary comedic relief. The inspiration behind the movie, Iyke told pressmen, is to make a statement.
“I wanted something that everyone can relate to. That’s the truest and honest answer. In order to make a statement, I wanted some things that everybody can relate with. The common denominator between the old and the young is the internet space and so we wanted to create a story that revolves around that lifestyle and that space.
Ok I just wanted something that we can all look at from every spectrum and identify with.”
Aside being popular in Nollywood, Jim Iyke is also well-known for his deadly clap-backs at internet trolls. With well almost two decades in Nollywood, the movie star has written in the sands of time his name in the establishment of Nollywood with his craft.
He got his breakthrough in the comedy-drama, ‘One Dollar’. Years after, he relocated to the United States to pursue other interests and explore business opportunities offered him. Now he’s back with “Bad Comments’, a movie which promises to be one of a kind in Nollywood and goes live worldwide on August 27, 2021, before berthing on Netflix in a future date
