APPAS Makes U-Turn, Denies Endorsing Any Governorship Candidate In Anambra

Awka – Association of Past Presidents General of Anambra State, APPAS, has denied endorsement of any candidate or political party for the November 6th gubernatorial election.

The group made the position known during their APPAS general meeting held over the weekend at Okpuno in Awka South Local Government Area.

Valentine Ozigbo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag-bearer in the 2021 Anambra governorship election, had on Thursday, met with the Association to strategize ahead of the November poll.

The meeting, held in Awka, also presented Mr Ozigbo with an avenue to appreciate the former community leaders’ unwavering support for his candidacy.

Recall that in December 2020, APPAS was one of the first groups to formally endorse Mr Ozigbo’s candidacy for governor, months before his victorious outing at the June 26 PDP primary election.

In his remarks, the Acting National President of APPAS, Mazi Omife I Omife, thanked Mr Ozigbo and his deputy, Mrs Azuka Enemo for taking out time to meet with the group.

According to Mazi Omife, there is work to be done to ensure that Ozigbo emerges victorious in the guber poll, assuring him of their conviction in his candidacy and their resolve to partner with him to make Anambra regain its lost glory.

But in a twist of events, the group had over the weekend, come out to say that it has not endorsed any candidate ahead of the November poll.

In a resolution signed by Mazi Omife, the group commended Governor Willie Obiano on various efforts made by his administration towards the development of the state.

He however called on him to construct more roads for the state before his second term elapses.

Mazi Omife made it clear that they have not endorsed any politician as their choice in the forthcoming gubernatorial election, pointing out that APPAS is a non-political and non-governmental organization, whose major objective is to enthrone good governance for all round development of the state through campaign for good leadership.

He called on Anambrarians to vote wisely during the November election for greater glory of the state.

Omife, who was a one-time President General of Mbaukwu community, appreciated members of the association for their various contributions and commitment towards greater height of the organization, and called on past presidents general that are yet to identify with APPAS to do so for their own benefit, that of their communities, and Anambra state in general.
