Family members of another suspected case of COVID-19 have cried out for help at Aviation quarters within Kano metropolis.
The outcry is coming two weeks after the suspected case was allegedly ignored by health workers despite several attempts to ascertain they are his Coronavirus status.
The family alleged that the case, who is their father, was initially admitted at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for about 4 days without medical attention and was smartly discharged.
According to them, thereafter he developed COVID-19 related symptoms with difficulty in breathing and other underlying illnesses such as diabetes, pneumonia and high sugar level.
In an exclusive interview with TNC, a son of the 57-year-old man, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, lamented that his father, currently placed on oxygen, had been rejected at two private hospitals in the State and resorted to treatment at home by a family doctor.
He confirmed that officials of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC had taken his sample for about a week now and yet to confirm his status despite several calls, adding that they always promised to be on their way to the residence but to no avail.
“My father is well-to-do and could take care of his medical bills, but he is currently lying down at an isolated room in the house, posing a serious threat to other family members,” he lamented.
When contacted, an official of the State Ministry of Health confidentially told TNC that the sample may be among those taken to Abuja when the operations of the NCDC testing laboratory were temporarily suspended last week.
Attempts to speak with members of the special task force on COVID-19 in the state were not successful as at the time of filing this report as they neither took their calls nor responded to text messages.
This is coming barely a week after one Zinriya Salma, aged 70, released an audio clip which went viral on social media, faulting the government of Kano state and the NCDC officials for their nonchalance toward the treatment and confirmation of her son-in-law, Abdullahi Lawal’s status before the latter eventually died.
She also accused the officials of ignoring several attempts to get the family members of the deceased tested.
