The seeming desperate move by the Lagos State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for allegedly not splashing billions of the state financial resources on leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state has put former Governor Bola Tinubu on a hot spot.

The obviously selfish move has riled up the citizenry with a majority placing the blame squarely at the door step of Tinubu. The state legislators on Monday concluded that they may impeach Ambode over spurious financial misappropriation.

The development blew into the open as the opposition  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claimed that their Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was an established democrat and that the resort to flippancy by Buhari campaigner, Tinubu, cannot detract from that fact.

Spokesman of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, says Tinubu, in attacking Atiku’s state of the nation address, which embodied the concerns, fears and apprehensions of Nigerians over President Muhammadu Buhari’s despotic tendencies, has shown that he has finally turned his back against Nigerians because of pecuniary interests.

According to the PDP, ‘’we invite Nigerians to note that all the accusations of undemocratic actions alluded to Tinubu against Atiku did not come under Atiku’s purview of decision or his sphere of control while in office as the Vice President of Nigeria. If anything, Atiku was in charge of the economy during the period and every Nigerian can testify that, within that time, our economy thrived to be one of the fastest growing in the world and the purchasing power of citizens was much more higher than what obtains today.

‘’It is therefore very pitiable that Asiwaju has become flippant in his desperation to please the cabal and market a bad product that President Buhari has become before Nigerians. It is rather unfortunate that while other respected leaders in our country are rallying with the people’s candidate, Atiku, to rescue our nation from the stranglehold of undemocratic forces, Tinubu is busy dining with such oppressive forces and casting aspersion on respected leaders, to the chagrin of Nigerians across the board.

‘’We are challenging Tinubu to list a single attribute of President Buhari that qualifies him as a democrat. By supporting Buhari, Asiwaju has exposed his support for nepotism, hunger, insecurity, violation of human rights, constitutional breaches, attacks on democratic institutions, disobedience of court orders, arbitrary arrests, illegal detention, low purchasing power of citizens as well as other vices by which the Buhari administration is known.’’

In the mean time, the Lagos Legislature has summoned Governor Ambode who was foisted on the state by Tinubu to appear before it within one week over his alleged failure to formally present the 2019 Budget before the House.

This development is generating reactions on social media from Nigerians.

Oke Umurhohwo, says the main reason for the impeachment move against Ambode is to set example and make good scapegoat. This is why we must not vote in Sanwo-Olu because the man will be a slave of Tinubu 100%.

From Dolapo Oni, ‘’Ambode is being punished by his party to the extreme.  His impeachment will ensure he does not get a pension. This is the extent to which Bourdillon is willing to go to punish him. Not for any crime but for going against Bourdillon. Think twice before bowing to any godfather.’’
