Following the continued protests by youths under the End SARS campaign, the Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has ordered the immediate closure of schools across the state.

The move by the governor was disclosed in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Femi Agagu.

The directive was coming a few hours after parents in the state urged the state government to close all schools for the safety of the children.

According to the Education Commissioner, “Mr Governor has directed that all schools that resumed on Monday 19th October 2020 be closed for the meantime from tomorrow 21st October 2020 because of the engulfing nationwide protest and the need to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

He added that parents and the public are to note the directive and all schools are to comply immediately.

“Any inconvenience is regretted, while the State Government would ensure the resumption of our schools as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has warned against any form of protest or gathering citing violent attacks on officers, men, formations and innocent Nigerians at different parts of the metropolis.

In a statement on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, also referred to the 24 hours curfew imposed by the state government noting that the order took effect from 4pm yesterday.

“Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that henceforth, no protest or gathering or possession, under whatever guise, is permitted”, Adejobi noted.

He said all security agencies have deployed adequate personnel to take charge and enforce the curfew across the state.

The command regretted the burning of Orile Police Station. Hoodlums also on Tuesday attacked and razed the Layeni police station located at Ojo Road, Ajegunle in Apapa. The incident occurred hours after the arson at Orile.

The spokesman added that, “some of our policemen were critically injured and unconfirmed reports state that one of them is dead”.

“It’s crystal clear that the End SARS protest has been hijacked by hoodlums who want to run down the state.”

Adejobi declared that the Police Command will resist anarchy and unrest with all powers within the ambit of the law.
