3 Shot Dead Following Anambra Community Tax Force Election

Awka – Nkpor Community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State was on Wednesday was thrown into mourning as three young men were shot dead in broad daylight by unknown gunmen.

The incident took place at about 1.30pm, after the inauguration of Nkpor Community tax force at the Civic Centre Eke Nkpor.

TNC correspondent gathered that the victims are thirty-two-year-old Izuchukwu Idemili and thirty-one-year-old Chidi Oforma both from Nkpor as well as forty-five-year-old Bongo Muoghalu of Umuoji all in Idemili North Council Area of the state.

A source claimed that the incident took place when two unknown boys drove a black unregistered Mercedes “V Boot” and opened fire on the crowd shortly after the inauguration of Nkpor Community tax force at the Civic Centre Eke Nkpor.

Meanwhile, when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Haruna Mohammed said police detectives attached to Ogidi’ Division led by the DPO, CSP Ekuri Remigius had visited the scene and rushed the victims who sustained gunshot injuries to Crown hospital along Nkpor-Umuoji road for medical attention where they were all certified dead by the medical doctor.

“The corpses have been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy while two expended ammunition of 7.62mm were recovered at the scene as exhibits,” he said.

The PPRO further revealed that the State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the matter, with a view to fishing out the culprits.

“The case is under investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and efforts are being intensified to apprehend perpetrators of the heinous act in order to bring them to Justice,” Mohammed said.
